The Application Process
STEP 1
Initial Application.

Applicants apply in person to fill out a brief application and receive required materials.

  • There is a $75 non-refundable application fee, which can be paid in check, cash, or money order.
  • Applicants are given a questionnaire, textbook, study guides to assist in training for the entrance exam, and information to fill out and return upon taking their exam.

STEP 2
Entrance Exam.

  • When applicants complete the initial application process, their placement exam is scheduled. All required materials must be submitted at the time of the exam.
  • A math test and a safety & tool test will be administered. Applicants who score lower than 80% on either test will be required to re-take those tests, with two re-takes allowed.
  • All tests are completed at ABC’s Keystone Center.

STEP 3
Required Documentation.

  • Proof of age (driver’s license, birth certificate, etc.).
  • A copy of the applicant’s high school diploma or GED certificate. (While not required, these increase the chances of acceptance into the program.)
  • Three letters of reference from non-family members.
  • Proof of trade work, if any, in addition to the three references. (A letter from employer noting experience is preferred.)
  • Transcript of grades from last school year completed, sent from school guidance department, plus attendance record (when available).
  • If you are a Career and Technology Center graduate, a letter of recommendation from the applicant’s primary instructor.
  • Copies of transcripts from any trade schools, post-high school training, and/or military service.
  • If a veteran, copies of discharge papers (Form 214).

STEP 4
Ranking and Acceptance

Applicants will be ranked by entrance exam scores and materials submitted during the application process. Acceptance is based on the order of rank as openings become available. Applications are kept on file for two years.

Applicants will not be accepted until all steps are fully completed and items turned in.

Materials turned in after the due date will result in points deducted from the applicant’s ranking score.
